Every time your opponent moves, you must visualize and predict their moves as if you were playing your opponent’s pieces. I typically ask myself, “if I was playing my opponent’s pieces, what would my best move be?” You want to predict the best moves your opponent can make so you can be prepared for them before they happen. In general, you don’t want to assume your opponent won’t see good moves. Prepare for your opponent to make the best move he or she can.
